Ken Liu

Ken has spent more than two decades in municipal engineering, urban design, and residential and commercial development. His experience covers community development, infrastructure improvement, neighbourhood revitalization, and all aspects of land development.

Ken believes in empowering employees, who like him, strive to succeed. Those principles led him to founding Invistec, but also guided him at every stage of his career.

By 26, Ken was a chief engineer managing the development of three 34 story high-rises for one of China's largest construction management companies. But it wasn't enough. "I was too young to have reached my full potential," he says.

Instead he came to Canada in 2000, building a strong reputation for taking on challenges in land development projects. As a project manager, he has successfully led engineering teams and worked on numerous subdivision developments in the City of Edmonton, including Walker, Charlesworth, Windermere, and Big Lake.

While working with the City of Edmonton in 2010, Ken assembled an engineering team responsible for the detailed design of the neighbourhood renewal program. During a business trip, a colleague showed him a BlackBerry with almost 500 new emails in a week. It was one competition he didn't mind losing.

“An efficient leader shouldn't have to touch every detail,” he says. “I showed him my BlackBerry, I said 'I've only got five, and three are from my friends.'”
